Little trip to the Stendörrens Naturreservat
After a quick look at the map of Stockholm’s Archipelago, one can think that wherever you go, it’s going to be the same. Bigger and smaller islands, rocks and forests. Seeing one place is like visiting all of them. True? Definitely not!
Stendörrens Naturreservat: this name caught my attention when I was looking at the map. It didn’t look special in any way from above, but there must have been a reason why someone decided to cover this area with extra protection and build some infrastructure. Let’s take the car keys and drive there!
In most situations, getting out of Stockholm begins with driving the boring E4 freeway. We know it too well. Driving north is required to get to one airport and south to the other. We are heading south. Thankfully, the boring part doesn’t take too long, and we can quickly turn to much more picturesque rural roads, which much better suit the character of our tiny Alfa Romeo.
Where should I begin the description of the nature reserve? Stunning views? Nice rocks to walk on? That’s not that unique for this region. Much more characteristic are the suspension bridges that link small, rocky islands. “This place with little bridges”: that’s how I refer to this place now.
While visiting this area, it would be a huge mistake not to pay a short visit to Trosa. That’s not just another little Swedish town. A picturesque canal on one side and historic wooden houses on the other—this is what a walk along the promenade, running through the town, looks like. If there is one building that one will remember from the visit here, it will for sure be the charming Tourist Center, which is located on the shorter side of the tiny town square.
Do you have some free time next weekend? Maybe consider a similar trip. Stendörrens Naturreservat is a great destination for Stockholmers. But if you are not one of them, and most of my readers are not, just open a map and look for similar places in your region. Enjoy!
